Overview
MUNA Social Services (MSS) proudly announces the acquisition of our new warehouse facility, located at 80-50 Pitkin Avenue, Ozone Park, NY. This central hub serves as the operational backbone for our Nourish Emergency Food Assistance Program and other community service initiatives. The warehouse enables MSS to efficiently store, sort, and distribute food, hygiene products, and emergency supplies to our network of over 30 pantries across New York, New Jersey, Delaware, and Pennsylvania. This vital resource allows us to meet growing community needs with improved speed, consistency, and scalability.
Impact
The new warehouse has already begun to significantly improve MSS's logistics and capacity. By streamlining the storage and distribution process, MSS is now able to serve more families in a timely and organized manner.
Supports the distribution of food to over 500,000 individuals annually
Enhances emergency response during disasters or crises
Reduces food waste by maintaining better inventory control
Allows for the inclusion of more fresh produce and culturally preferred items
This facility plays a key role in helping MSS reduce food insecurity, maintain operational efficiency, and expand the reach of our services to underserved communities.
Commitment to Cultural Sensitivity
The warehouse is more than just a storage space—it is an extension of our mission to serve diverse communities with dignity. Inventory is carefully curated to include culturally appropriate food staples that align with dietary and religious preferences. From Halal meat to South Asian lentils and Caribbean produce, we aim to honor the cultural identities of those we serve. Our intake and packaging processes are also designed to ensure that every family receives food with care and respect.
Strategic Collaborations and Volunteer Network
The success of our warehouse operations is powered by a dedicated volunteer network and partnerships with local nonprofits and suppliers. Weekly volunteer shifts include:
Sorting and packing culturally appropriate grocery boxes
Loading distribution trucks for partner food pantries
Maintaining cleanliness and safety standards
We also collaborate with organizations such as Food Bank for New York City, Met Council, and local masjids and schools, allowing for coordinated, high-impact food delivery across boroughs and state lines.
Future Outlook
As demand for food assistance continues to rise, MSS plans to further develop the warehouse as a logistics and training center for community outreach. Future goals include:
Implementing cold storage for perishable goods
Hosting volunteer training sessions and food safety workshops
Establishing a real-time inventory management system
Launching satellite delivery routes from the warehouse to remote pantry sites
Through this warehouse, MSS is investing in long-term sustainability, equity, and operational strength. It is more than just a facility—it is a foundation for hope, nourishment, and lasting impact.
