AIM HIGH ACADEMY

Program Overview

Aim High Academy is MUNA Social Services’ (MSS) flagship afterschool program designed to support and enrich the educational journeys of students in grades 3 through 10. Currently serving over 100 students at 464 Crescent Street in Brooklyn, NY 11208, the program provides an engaging environment that combines academic assistance, skill-building, and mentorship. Aim High Academy also offers specialized SHSAT preparation and Regents exam support, ensuring that students are fully equipped to pursue their goals in competitive educational settings.

Impact on Student Learning

Across New York City, countless children—especially those from under-resourced communities—face academic achievement gaps. Many are juggling various socioeconomic challenges, often exacerbated by food insecurity and poverty. Building on findings from community research and broader data (including Robin Hood Foundation’s studies highlighting systemic disparities), Aim High Academy directly addresses these challenges by providing free, high-quality academic support and enrichment. By alleviating the burden of expensive tutoring and offering hands-on mentorship, the program helps students improve their grades, build confidence, and envision futures filled with greater possibilities.

Commitment to Educational Equity

At Aim High Academy, equity is a guiding principle. Recognizing that each student has distinct learning needs, the program employs differentiated instruction, small group sessions, and personalized tutoring to ensure that every learner receives the attention and tools they need to succeed. From foundational literacy and numeracy reinforcement to rigorous test preparation, every aspect of Aim High is crafted with the understanding that educational opportunities should be accessible to all—regardless of income level, cultural background, or personal circumstances.

Strategic Collaboration & Volunteer Network

Aim High Academy leverages a dedicated network of volunteer tutors, experienced educators, and community partners. These volunteers and partners bring specialized expertise, from STEM and language arts to SHSAT and Regents prep, offering a broad range of resources for students. Collaborations with local schools, youth programs, and faith-based organizations extend the program’s reach, helping identify families who would most benefit from academic support. This robust ecosystem of support ensures that the program remains responsive to evolving student needs and educational standards.

Future Outlook

MSS is committed to expanding Aim High Academy’s capacity and impact. Plans include enrolling more students, increasing the frequency of specialized preparatory courses, and exploring digital platforms that deliver supplemental learning opportunities. By continuously adapting to students’ academic and social-emotional needs—while remaining anchored in MSS’s guiding principles of empowerment, equity, innovation, collaboration, responsiveness, accountability, and compassion—Aim High Academy aspires to break down educational barriers, inspire lifelong learning, and open pathways to success for youth across the city.
