Aim High Academy Honors Student Triumph: Celebrating Admissions to NYC’s Top High Schools

On April 24, 2025, Aim High Academy by MUNA Social Services proudly celebrated the remarkable success of its scholars who were admitted to some of New York City’s most prestigious high schools. The special event was attended by Council Member Chris Banks, who offered the students valuable advice on thriving in high school and presented them with certificates of achievement on behalf of the NYC Council. Among the honored students were Ismail Hossain and Madhiha H. Rifa (Bard Early College), Arabella Harun, Nahiya Shahadat and Farzana Ahona (Brooklyn Tech), Afreen Rahman (Stuyvesant High School), Zara Kabir and Maisha Monisa (The Brooklyn Latin High School). MUNA Social Services: Spreading Hope and Nourishment in April

In April 2025, MUNA Social Services proudly distributed over 350,000 pounds of food to more than 30,000 families through its 32 food pantries across New York, New Jersey, and Delaware.

Families received essential staples like rice, lentils, cooking oil, onions, potatoes, halal chicken, and fresh produce—providing the nourishment they need to care for themselves and their loved ones. At each distribution site, we witnessed countless moments of relief and gratitude—a mother in Brooklyn thankful she could feed her children, or an elderly neighbor in Newark grateful to share a warm meal at home.

“Thanks to this support, I can put food on the table for my family,” shared Aisha, a mother of three, reflecting the meaningful impact of your generosity.

None of this would be possible without the tireless efforts of our volunteers, the generosity of our donors, and the unwavering support of our community. Together, we are fulfilling our mission of compassion, dignity, and service—ensuring that no family is left behind.

As we move forward, MUNA Social Services remains committed to making a difference—one meal, one family at a time.

The Dire State of Hunger in New York City

In the city of opportunity, it’s unacceptable that nearly 1.3 million New Yorkers, including 1 in 4 children, face food insecurity. Even before COVID-19, far too many households were struggling to afford essentials like rent, utilities, and food. Now, with the expiration of pandemic-era supports and rising costs, food insecurity has reached crisis levels.

At MUNA Social Services, we believe no one should go hungry. Our team is committed to ensuring that nutritious, culturally appropriate food reaches New Yorkers in need, free of charge.

Since the pandemic, visits to food pantries have surged by 75%. For many families, food is the first expense to be cut when budgets are tight, even though 80% of struggling households have at least one working adult. Hunger doesn’t just affect individuals—it impacts entire communities, from health to education and economic stability.

Join Us in the Fight Against Hunger

Through donations, volunteering, and advocacy, you can help us feed families, support communities, and ensure no New Yorker has to worry about their next meal. Together, we can create a city where everyone thrives.

At MUNA Social Services, feeding hope is our mission.
