Eid-al Adha Community Care: MUNA Social Services Distributes $300,000 in Food to 11,000 NYC Families

On June 7th and June 11th, MUNA Social Services hosted a special Eid-al Adha food distribution across 20 locations in NYC, serving 11,000 families with essential food items, including halal chicken, cooking oil, onions, and potatoes. With the help of hundreds of dedicated volunteers, the event efficiently reached those in need. The estimated value of the distributed food was approximately $300,000.

Families arrived throughout the day at the distribution points, greeted with warm smiles and Eid Mubarak wishes. Mrs. Amina, a single mother of three, expressed deep gratitude, highlighting the importance of community support during Eid. The atmosphere was filled with camaraderie and joy as everyone contributed to the success of the event. By the end of June 11th, MUNA Social Services had successfully provided food to all 11,000 families, offering immediate relief and strengthening community bonds. With improved storage capacity and extended shelf life for these items, we can offer a more diverse and nutritious range of food to the communities we serve. This addition will also streamline our food handling processes, making our operations more efficient and enabling us to better manage inventory across our 19 regular food pantries and over 10 popup pantries in New York, New Jersey, and Delaware. Ultimately, these refrigerators will help us reach even more people in need, reducing food waste and ensuring no one goes hungry.

Empowering Communities: MUNA Social Services Hosts "Know Your Rights Workshops" in Partnership with Human Concern USA

In June 2024, MUNA Social Services, in partnership with Human Concern USA, hosted three highly impactful “Know Your Rights Workshops” across New York. These workshops, held at the Brooklyn Islamic Center, the MUNA Center of Jackson Heights, and the Parkchester Islamic Center, drew over 300 attendees, with each location accommodating over 100 participants.

The workshops featured esteemed speakers who provided invaluable insights into critical issues facing the community. Attorney Abdul Aziz led discussions on immigration, offering guidance and answering pressing questions about legal rights and processes. Sergeant Latif addressed crime issues, providing crucial information on how to stay safe and navigate interactions with law enforcement.

The “Know Your Rights Workshops” were more than just informative sessions; they were community-building events. Attendees not only gained essential knowledge but also enjoyed delicious dinners and received Amazon gift cards as tokens of appreciation.
