Dream Project: Haven for Her

The program responds to the critical need for specialized services tailored to Muslim women who face domestic violence. Studies reveal that over half of Muslim women in the U.S. report experiencing some form of family or relationship violence, yet cultural stigmas, fear of ostracization, and a lack of culturally competent services often deter them from seeking help. Haven for Her bridges this gap by offering a secure environment that respects their cultural identities while equipping them with the tools needed for self-sufficiency and healing. The program aspires to reduce barriers to assistance, foster community awareness, and empower survivors to rebuild their lives.

Central to Haven for Her is its culturally sensitive approach, ensuring that every aspect of the shelter—from its physical design to the services provided—respects the diverse cultural and religious values of its residents. This commitment goes beyond providing safety, extending to a holistic model of care that includes trauma-informed counseling, empowerment workshops, and integration with community resources. Fundraising (2025-2026): Secure $3,000,000 through private donations and community outreach. Building Acquisition and Renovation (2026): Identify and purchase a suitable facility, completing renovations by year-end. Staffing & Furnishing (2026-2027): Equip the shelter and recruit culturally competent staff. Launch & Operations (2027): Conduct a soft opening in early 2027, followed by an official launch in March.

MSS envisions expanding Haven for Her to become a model program that not only provides immediate shelter but also empowers survivors with long-term solutions. Future goals include introducing employment training, expanding mental health services, and advocating for systemic change to combat domestic violence within the Muslim community. With a focus on sustainability, the program aims to establish an endowment fund and maintain active fundraising efforts to ensure its operations and future growth.
